WRITING THE SHORT PLAY

Candace Perry is a writer, teacher, and social justice activist who strives to change the world, one play at a time.  Over fifty of her short plays have been produced in the US and Ireland; her five full length plays have had readings, workshops and productions in New York and Cape Cod theaters; and a dozen of her short plays have been produced online. She’s taught Writing the Short Play for Culture*Park (New Bedford), the Fine Arts Work Center (Provincetown) and other venues on the Cape and in New Orleans.  She lives in Wellfleet with her husband, Charles Thibodeau.

In this two and a half hour workshop, we’ll look at examples of successful short plays, perform in-class exercises, and explore the unique opportunities and challenges of the short play format.  The goal is for class participants to begin writing plays that cut to the chase without sacrificing character, content or conflict.  Open to experienced as well as beginning playwrights, the class has only one requirement: the desire to write a play…
